Something interesting that I've found in the past couple years is that no progress is linear-- not for yourself, others, or the things you create. After my electronic full-length, Deluge Nonephemeral, I planned on writing a second full-length, leaning into some of the more space-y and atmospheric elements of that record, using some of the physical gear I've picked up over the years.
What happened instead was Chromatic Despot, a 4 track EP that poured out of me in equal parts crumbling buildings, polluted sunrises, melancholic aching, and faded glory.
This EP is a bit of a departure from my previous sounds, while somehow also making sense within the landscapes it was created in and for. The weirdest thing about releasing music is that it happens on a lag-- you're hearing this now, months after all the music was finalized and composed. What this means for me is that I've experienced these 4 tracks over and over for months now, so to my ears they feel old and familiar. To yours, hopefully, you experience something new, something compelling, and something strange but still reassuring, a sound you've heard in a dream but haven't been able to put your fingers on until this moment.
